Decor and More

After the sewing fiasco, Monday’s interest was home decor craft.  I love to do little crafts around the house, but especially for upcoming holidays.  I chose to do a simple yarn wreath for the Fourth of July.  I got the yarn at Walmart, and I chose to use a Styrofoam wreath this time, instead of a straw wreath I’ve used in previous projects.

I don’t think using a Styrofoam wreath is easier.  It gives a different look to the wreath.  Straw wreaths are more round, whereas this wreath had square edges.  I think it just depends on the project.  Also, I’m not sure how well this wreath will stand the test of time, but we shall see.  If I need to make it again in the future, it should be pretty easy.

Then Tuesday’s interest was the most dangerous of all interests….baking.  I had so many choices on Pinterest to choose, but decided to go easy with this yummy Snickerdoodle muffin.  Oh my goodness, people, this muffin is amazing.  See, I love soft Snickerdoodle cookies, but they always seem to harden after a day.  In muffin form, they can stay soft and simply divine.

Oh, and I have to give a shout out to this little “kitchen gadget” (it’s not really a gadget, but I can’t think of another word to describe it).  I got it at The Container Store, well my husband got it for me last year at Easter.  It’s a nice little flip book to put printed off recipes in while I cook.

Hope you are having a great week!

House Projects Catch Up

I mentioned in my first June post that I spent a lot of time in May putting together house projects.  Well, now I will share with you the two biggest ones that we did.  Basically, my husband and I each took a bathroom and we did one major project.  First, my husband’s wonderful masterpiece.

Basically, we bought moulding, three boards and white paint.  The moulding was already white, but we had to paint the shelves.  We measured out the frame first and then built shelves to fit.  Then, as an extra bonus, we put border around the top of the shelf that was out of the same moulding as the frame.

My project in the guest bathroom:

I found the tree branch decal on Amazon.  The wording decal was from Uppercase Living that had been on there pretty much since we bought the house.  I just angled the branches around the wording.  Then I bought double robe hooks from Walmart to hang the towels.  We had four guests using this bathroom, and it worked out well.

One other thing, yesterday’s interest was Pinterest, and I found a whole new way to organize my blog using it!  I have a lot of my interests as boards, and I pinned things I might (and probably will) do in the future!  I also used it to keep track of the stuff I’ve already done.  I felt very proud of myself for figuring out this organizing technique (kind of like when I was in middle school and figured out the class riddle).

Tonight’s interest is trying new restaurants, and Michael has turned it into a date!  More on that tomorrow!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Crafty Easter Crafts

Crafts are easily in my top five favorite things about holidays, and Easter is no different.  I also have a Pinterest.  I’m not as obsessed as I thought I would be, but I do like to get holiday recipes and ideas from the site.  I don’t use it as an inspiration tool as much as I do a keeper of crafting/recipe sites.

This particular craft originally came from [this site], as far as I know.  I liked it because my grandmother had bought me a candlestick holder for Christmas that would be perfect for this!

I had to change a few of the instructions to meet my particular budget and supplies, but it still turned out great.  It’s easy to make too.  Extra bonus.  :)

Here were the supplies:

1 Styrofoam Egg

Silk Flowers (I had to use two of packages of the one showing)

Brads or Pins (I used the same yellow pins)

Scissors or a sharp knife

She had cute punch-out flowers to dazzle her egg, but I found these awesome silk flowers.  I find that the key is to find them as small as you can get them, but not all the same size, so it creates a texture.

So, you cut off the bottom of the Styrofoam Egg, so it sits steady on the candlestick holder.

Then, you place the flowers all over the egg until they cover it, fastening them with the brads or pins.

It’s really that easy, and it was a perfect way to kick off the Easter holiday!
